HOUSING AND DINING INFORMATION

This information is also available in pdf format from a downloadable file

  • Dorm Information for student participants
  • All our CIDER summer program's student participants will be housed on 2 floors of San Miguel Hall (located in Section F-3 of the map of UCSB) during their stay. Please follow this link for more information.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!: As a courtesy, if you plan to arrive to UCSB after 8:00pm, please let Sue Alemdar at KITP know the day before via e-mail (sue@kitp.ucsb.edu) with "LATE ARRIVAL" in the subject line, or telephone Sue at 805-893-4111 and give her the information.

  • Housing Information for senior participants
  • Guest house location

For those senior participants who will be staying at the Summer Inn-Santa Barbara (formerly the "Summer Guest House") operated by the UCSB Alumni Association, the Summer Inn is located in recently completed Manzanita Village on the UCSB campus (approximately Sections F-1 and F-2 on the campus map). Linen service is provided, and guests might share bathrooms (approximately one bathroom per two guest rooms).

    Meals/Dining Rooms

With a few exceptions, meals for our program participants staying in the dorms will be served in Ortega Dining Commons; a few meals will be served in Carrillo Dining Commons (lunch and dinner on Saturday, July 17th, plus dinner on Saturday, July 24th). Please check with the Service Desk in San Miguel Hall for the location of these dining commons. As a general rule, meals for our conference will be served during the following hours:

    • - Breakfast: 7:30 - 9:00 am
    • - Lunch: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
    • - Dinner: 5:45 pm - 7:15 pm
A dining room schedule, listing exceptions to these meal times, will be distributed to you shortly after you arrive at the conference.

We're planning on having the senior participants join the student participants for most lunches and dinners in the dining commons, so that these meals can also be an occasion for group socializing and exchanging scientific information/ideas. Senior participants will be able to buy dining-room meal tickets at the time of their arrival

A Dining Meal Card will be attached to your dorm room key. Please show this card to the lobby checker in the Dining Commons for access to scheduled meals. Once inside the Dining Commons you will have choices of hot entrees, salad bar and cold line, beverages, desserts, breads and condiments. Proceeding to the least crowded areas will speed up service. Staff will assist you in locating any food items that may not be easily found as well as pointing out the vegetarian options. Please bus your dishes to the tray-veyor when your meal is completed.

Friends and family members who are not a part of the conference may purchase any regular meal in the Dining Commons at the front door with a CREDIT CARD ONLY. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the Dining Commons during regular meal hours. The Dining Commons provide an "All You Can Eat" service and they kindly request that you consume all of your meal inside the dining room.
