Housing:

-Ramada Inn: We have reserved a block of rooms for the CIDER 10 program under the name "CIDER." We have both single kings ($109 per night) and double queens ($129 per night), and the rates are good for the entire CIDER program (June 6 - July 17) except during graduation weekend, June 12-13, as the hotel is already sold out. The updated rooms include free Wi-Fi, refrigerators, microwaves, free continental breakfast including made-to-order waffles, and an area discount card that offers 20% off at select restaurants. Rate also includes daily room cleaning. Please call and make your own reservation under the name "CIDER" to take advantage of this rate.

- Extended Stay America, Santa Barbara: We have reserved a block of rooms for the CIDER 10 program under the name "CIDER." They are all single, queen, non-smoking, and have a room rate of $85.99 per night. If one stays at Extended Stay for more than thirty days, the rate is $69.99 per night. Please call and make your own reservation under our room block to take advantage of this great rate. The reservation block is from June 6, 2010 to July 24, 2010. Please note that the apartments (below) are not available for the first two weeks of the program, so Extended Stay America may be the best option if you are planning to attend CIDER 10 between June 6 and June 19. Depending on availability, you may be able to move to an apartment on June 20.

-Santa Ynez Apartments: Like in 2008, we were able to reserve 2-bedroom apartments adjacent to the UC Santa Barbara campus for senior participants and instructors. Check in and check out for these apartments will be on the weekends only. These apartments are available starting June 20, 2010 (week 3 of CIDER 2010). As we get closer to the program, the Program Administrator will send CIDER applicants information about the apartments and the availability of space. As in 2008, we would like to house the majority of our instructors and senior participants in the apartments, if possible.

-On Campus Housing: As in previous programs, the majority of our students and postdocs will stay in on campus housing. Special accommodations may be made on an exceptional basis for students and postdocs with families. Once applicants are excepted into the CIDER program, we will work with you on special needs or accommodations as space and funding allow.

Family and Child Care Options:

We did an internet search of child care options in Santa Barbara over the summer. There are many places that offer child care for younger children and many summer camps for older kids. Below are a few links that may help in your search:

KITP Website for Childcare Options

UC Santa Barbara Family Vacation Center

Science Adventure Day Camp

Destination Science (with extended hours)

Reminders:

-In order to receive reimbursement for travel, lodging, and meals expenses, senior participants and instructors must attend CIDER at least two weeks. Attendance should start and end on the weekends, if possible, especially if one is staying in the Santa Ynez apartments.

-Students and postdocs must commit to staying at least three weeks. A fourth week is optional, and it overlaps with the 2010 SEDI Conference this year, which is also held on the UC Santa Barbara campus.

Application Deadline: January 31, 2010!
